The word that immediately comes to mind is faithfulness; faithfulness and consistency in his Christian faith and to all those he loved. Whenever we spoke on the phone he would express his love and then always add "God Bless", which I always felt said "My friend, I want the very best that life can offer to come your way". He was such a good friend. I cannot think about Les without thinking about cricket. We used to play Test matches between England and West Indies in the years of the great West Indian players Walcott, Weekes and Worrell were active, (just 2 of us) in the local recreation ground. The wicket at the batsman's end was a tree and the bowlers mark was a discarded jacket. He retained his love of cricket and in my last phone call to him we were still discussing the fortunes of Surrey and the England sides. He loved to say "Up the boys"; this meant that he hoped that either or both England and Surrey would do well. I think in cricketing terms I would summarise by saying "What a player" - Les was a real team player! I send you much love and many thoughts. Wilf xxxx
